Bud Light Marketing Exec Behind Dylan Mulvaney Partnership Takes Leave of Absence: Report

An Anheuser-Busch executive is facing the music for adding a transgender individual’s face to a can of Bud Light beer.

Vice president of marketing for Bud Light Alissa Heinerscheid has taken a leave of absence from the job she has held since June 2022, according to an AdAge report.

Heinerscheid’s decision to add Dylan Mulvaney’s face to a can of Bud Light to mark the transgender influencer’s “365 Days of Girlhood” backfired badly. The typical Bud Light consumer, it appears, does not want to be represented by transgender individuals.

The VP’s attempt to diversify the brand’s demographic was answered by consumers boycotting the beer in retaliation. Many boycotters gloated, “Go Woke, Go Broke” on social media after the campaign cost the beer maker more than $5 billion in market valuation.

The Bud Light senior marketing executive behind the controversial Dylan Mulvaney ad campaign has taken a leave of absence, according to a report.

Alissa Heinerscheid, vice president of marketing for the popular beer, will be replaced by Budweiser global marketing VP Todd Allen, AdAge reported on Friday.

Heinerscheid has led the brand since June. It’s unclear if her replacement will be permanent.

The move comes as Bud Light and its parent company Anheuser-Busch have faced immense backlash for its partnership with Mulvaney, a transgender influencer who rose to fame chronicling her gender transition on social media.

At the conclusion of Mulvaney’s transition she dubbed “365 Days of Girlhood,” the beer maker sent the activist custom-made can’s featuring her face, which she revealed in an April 1 Instagram post with the hashtag #budlightpatner. She later posted another video enjoying one of the beers in a bathtub.

A day before Mulvaney announced the partnership, Heinerscheid was interviewed on the podcast “Make Yourself At Home,” where she discussed her work in transforming the Bud Light brand from its “fratty” and “out of touch” humor to a beer company that embraces inclusivity.

“I’m a businesswoman, I had a really clear job to do when I took over Bud Light, and it was ‘This brand is in decline, it’s been in a decline for a really long time, and if we do not attract young drinkers to come and drink this brand there will be no future for Bud Light,‘” Heinerscheid said.

She said she brought “belief” to the brand that to evolve and elevate means to incorporate “inclusivity, it means shifting the tone, it means having a campaign that’s truly inclusive, and feels lighter and brighter and different, and appeals to women and to men.”

She also disparaged the work of Bud Light’s past branding.

“We had this hangover, I mean Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor, and it was really important that we had another approach,” she said.

After her comments went viral amid the controversy, critics called Heinerscheid a hypocrite when photos surfaced appearing to show the exec enjoying the “fratty” culture she dismissed while a student at Harvard.

Heinerscheid was mocked after images on her now-deleted Facebook page showed her at a campus scavenger hunt, blowing up condoms like balloons, and downing beers during a 2006 “boozefest.”

Despite the immediate backlash from the partnership with Mulvaney, Bud Light initially defended the move before later offering a half-hearted apology to its loyal customers last week.

“We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people,” Anheuser-Busch InBev CEO Brendan Whitworth said in a press release. “We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer.”

In the weeks after Bud Light’s partnership with Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch saw its value plummet more than $5 billion.

FBI Whistleblower Warns Agents Against Speaking Out About Abuses of Power: FBI, Government ‘Will Crush You’

An FBI agent and purported whistleblower said on Thursday that he would discourage other agents from stepping forward about alleged abuses by the federal law enforcement agency, claiming that their lives would be “destroyed” if they spoke up.

Former FBI agent Garret O’Boyle, who came to prominence this year for testifying before the House Weaponization Committee about alleged politically motivated abuses in his former agency, told reporters that he would discourage other agents from speaking out because of the consequences to their personal lives.

“I would tell them first to pray about it, long and hard,” O’Boyle said in remarks reported by The Daily Caller. “And I would tell them I could take it to Congress for them, or I could put them in touch with Congress. But I would advise them not to do it.”

O’Boyle was one of three FBI agents to testify publicly before the Weaponization Committee, attesting that his family was left temporarily homeless after a suspension from the law enforcement agency which he claims was in retaliation for his criticisms of their conduct.

Republican North Dakota Rep. Kelly Armstrong asked O’Boyle, “And how do you think that solves being able to shine light on corruption, weaponization, any kind of misconduct that exists with the American people?”

“It doesn’t solve it. But the FBI will crush you. This government will crush you, and your family, if you try to expose the truth about thing that they are doing that are wrong. We are all examples of that,” he answered as he pointed to two other agents who were testifying.

Committee chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) has claimed that there are 12 additional whistleblowers who have approached him with concerns and have asked him to remain anonymous for fear of persecution.

However, the status of these individuals as “whistleblowers” has been challenged by subcommittee Democrats, who published a document over 300 pages long arguing that the former agents in contact with the Committee leadership do not meet the criteria of whistleblowers.

This issue became the subject of a contentious exchange earlier on Thursday in which Jordan bickered with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) over the appropriateness of the “whistleblower” designation in a cacaphony of congressional crosstalk.
